This is for folks who want to dive deep into the world of metalsmithing and to have someone answer all of your questions and help you along the way. We will create 2-3 projects over the 4 weeks that will give you the foundational skills to metalsmith and create on your own.

What you will learn:

  • Week 1: We will focus on sweat soldering, getting comfortable with a torch, sawing, texturizing, annealing, forming and creating a bail by making a metal pendant.
  • Week 2: We will start working on bezel setting. You will learn materials needed to make a ring, creating a bezel cup with a cabochon, forming a ring shank (closed and open) and setting a stone!
  • Week 3: Finishing up your ring project, and you can choose your final project! You could create a cuff, earrings, bolo, pendant, or more! The options are endless.
  • Week 4: Finishing up your previous projects, going over tools you may need for your own home studio, and scheduling a studio time for you to come in and work!

Let's dive deep and learn how to metalsmith together!

What's different about this workshop compared to others?

I only take on 4 students each class which is the smallest class ratio in the valley. I will answer any specific questions and will help you set-up a home studio without paying for all the expensive tools.

No prior experience is necessary. This class is for 16+ only. Minors MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Date and Time

Wednesdays, May 6th-May27th from 5:30pm-8:30pm

What to Expect

This is an intimate, small-group workshop (2–4 participants) for a personalized, hands-on experience. Each participant will have their own workstation at a shared table. We’ll share soldering torches (butane and/or acetylene) and a Flex Shaft.

The studio is located in a shared artist space inside a converted warehouse garage in Sugarhouse. It’s full of creative energy and charm — but bring layers in the winter months! There’s a shared restroom in the building.

What’s Included

  • 3 hours of guided instruction for 4 weeks
  • Plus one 3 hour studio time session where you can come into my space and use any of the tools, ask questions and work on your projects after the course is over.
  • A guide with tools and equipment you need to start your own home studio
  • Use of all tools and equipment in the studio
  • Solder and other consumable materials
  • Brass and copper

Materials & Costs:

Due to the constant change of the precious metal market, silver and stones are not included in the class tuition. Expect to spend an additional $50-$150, depending on your stone and design. I charge my wholesale rate for silver. You can pay this with cash, card, or venmo at the end of the workshop. If you prefer to bring your own material or use brass and copper, that will lower your costs significantly!

You’re welcome to bring your own stone (please send a photo beforehand) or purchase from these trusted sources:

I’ll also have a selection of stones available for purchase during class.
