I've seen some other metalsmiths utilize silk into their pendants recently, and I wanted to create my own version. Thus, the creation of the Wilderness Talismans: a nature inspired pendant on hand-dyed Sari Silk to remind you of your feminine and feral side.
Truth is, I've never created many necklaces or pendants outside of bolos in the 6ears of my metalsmithing career because it's not a piece of jewelry that I feel inspired to create.
I also found it difficult to create unique yet affordable pieces especially with the price of silver going up this year. Truth is, it is hard to source high-quality and affordable chains to go along with pendants, so I kinda gave up on making them.
I am also always yearning to bring more color into my work. Unless I did more beadwork or enameling, it's nearly impossible to utilize color outside of stones, so I was so excited to find these beautiful hand-dyed sari silk threads from a Utah local maker!
I plan on creating more collections that coincide with seasons and to explore sandcasting more natural elements too. I hope you enjoy these pendants as much as I do creating them!
