There have been more than a few times when someone has tried to give me unsolicited business advice — usually about how I should “scale” or “grow” into something big.
But the truth? I want to stay small. I don’t want to lose the personal connection I have with my customers. I want to make enough to support my family and create a life I love. And honestly, that’s the superpower of being a small business.
Big brands don’t know their customers by name — but I do! I’ve met so many of you in real life, and some of you feel like more than customers… you feel like friends (because you are!).
Big brands have fancy offices — I don’t. I have a tiny 10x10 studio and another 10x10 space I share and teach in. And I LOVE it.
Big brands don’t pack their own orders — but I do! I stamp, wrap, label, and literally run to the post office with each package. (Do big brands even know what their packaging room looks like?)
Big brands have customer service teams — I don’t. It’s just lil’ me when you reach out. But I love that I get to talk to you directly and create such a personal, positive experience.
Big brands don’t hand-make each item — I do. Every single piece of jewelry I sell is made with my two hands, even the simple threaders. I don’t think I’ll ever change that.
Thank you for shopping small, and for supporting my business and so many others. Your purchase directly supports a real human — and it means more than you know.
Thank you Youer for this blog post idea!
