Rising Silver Prices: What It Means for Your Jewelry (and My Business)

Rising Silver Prices: What It Means for Your Jewelry (and My Business)

I’m sure you’ve noticed—just like many of your favorite silversmiths—that we’re all feeling the pinch of rising silver prices. When I first started in 2020, silver was about $20 per troy ounce. Today, it’s nearly $41 an ounce.

As a small business owner, I’d be lying if I said this doesn’t cause me some anxiety. It’s a big challenge to keep affording basic materials. But as always, I’m staying positive, finding creative solutions, and moving forward.

Here’s what this means for you—and what I’m doing to make sure you can still buy beautiful, affordable, handmade jewelry:

✨ More Brass & Copper Pieces
While silver will always be my first love, I’ll be creating more designs in brass and copper to keep costs lower. These metals are beautiful and durable, and I’ll continue to use hypoallergenic ear wires for sensitive ears.

♻️ Making the Most of Silver Scrap
I already turn silver scraps into rings, earrings, and necklaces—but I’m doubling down on this practice. I may even start experimenting with casting to make the most of every bit of silver. This lets me create high-quality pieces while keeping material costs down.

📈 Prices Will Adjust (and Your Jewelry Gains Value!)
Yes, some prices will increase. But here’s the silver lining—your pieces will hold more value over time. With silver prices climbing, the jewelry you own now (and buy in the future) will remain a meaningful investment. This might even be the perfect time to send in old silver pieces you no longer wear and have them turned into something new!

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to keep creating jewelry that is handmade, high-quality, and accessible—while also paying myself a fair wage for the work I pour into each piece.

Now, more than ever, shopping small truly matters. Every purchase supports not just my business, but my ability to keep making pieces you love. 💛
